At Plexpack, we understand the varying demands of the fresh produce industry. While packaging materials must be optimized for shelf-life of the product, sealing must be hermetic, fast, and efficient to meet the high volume demands of consumers and retailers.

In order to prolong shelf life, we recommend perforated bags, since most produce have high-moisture/water content; in barrier bags, this can make the inside of the bag become more moist, which accelerates mould growth and overall product decay.

With this in mind, shrink packaging can sometimes be the ideal solution for produce. A trend we see a lot with produce such as eggplant and cucumbers is using side sealing technology to ensure product integrity during shipping and maintain shelf life. Shelf life is, by default, maintained to its utmost due to the perforation in the shrink film.

For bag sealing in the produce industry, we often see elaborate projects that require Nema 4X ratings for sealing bags in the fields while harvesting. To make sealing a fast and easy process for producers, we have also manufactured our ACS series sealers. The ACS line, allows for angled/full bag support during the sealing process; this allows operators to load the sealer more ergonomically and easily, ultimately increasing line speeds. We have seen these sealers run upwards of 45 bags a minute.
